Recently, the first domestic 8,000-ton class methanol bunkering chemical tanker (vessel name: IGAN), equipped with Weichai marine power, was successfully launched in Yangzhou, Jiangsu.

Two 6WH25 marine power main engines from Weichai can achieve seamless switching between conventional diesel and B100 biofuel modes, and can be easily upgraded to a methanol dual-fuel mode in the future, providing a high-value Chinese solution for the global shipping industry's green and low-carbon transformation.。

Powered by Weichai

The vessel has an overall length of 114.91 meters, a molded breadth of 19.00 meters, and a deadweight of 8,190 tons. It is capable of transporting methanol, various fuels, and chemicals, truly achieving "multi-purpose" utility.

B100 biofuel is one of the solutions for the shipping industry to move toward net-zero emissions. As the core of the ship's powertrain, the two 1,320 kW Weichai 6WH25 marine power units are the biggest highlight, and they are among the first marine engine models in China to be awarded the B100 certificate by the China Classification Society (CCS).。

Given the operational characteristics of a methanol bunkering vessel, which requires frequent berthing/unberthing and precise maneuvering, the Weichai 6WH25 marine power features high low-speed torque, ensuring stable and robust power output and flexible handling during sailing, acceleration, and berthing; Even when burning B100 biofuel, it maintains low fuel consumption, balancing energy efficiency and economic benefits.

In addition to the core main engines, the vessel also utilizes three Weichai B100 main generator sets and one emergency generator set, achieving a one-stop Weichai powertrain solution for the entire vessel. This enables parts commonality and convenient maintenance, further reducing the vessel's future operation and maintenance costs.

Customer feedback

The shipowner has highly praised Weichai marine power, noting that operators can switch to B100 biofuel mode with a one-click switch without the need for hardware modification, easily adapting to strict global emission-zone standards such as those in Singapore. Weichai products' outstanding power performance and fuel efficiency have further solidified the shipowner's confidence in continuing to choose Weichai marine power.
